Hiya! Thanks for stopping by the Footprints blog.
I’m Janet, the founder and president of Footprints Women’s Ministries Inc (and editor of Footprints magazine for Australian Christian women). Sounds impressive huh?! But don’t be fooled - I’m really NOT some hotshot, super spiritual, giant of the faith. But as a Christian of some 30 odd years, I have reached a point where I long to give back and encourage others … so here we are!
I’ve been married to my darling hubster Lawrence for 21 years, and am a very proud mum to two teenagers, Mr 17 & Miss 15 (as at Nov 2011). I work as an admin officer for my local Council 4 days per week, so Footprints is something I do in my “spare” time.
Obviously, I love to write – which is just as well because in addition to the Footprints magazine, I also produce the free monthly Footprints FOCUS ezine (which features a devotion and all the latest news and updates from the world of Footprints), hang out on Facebook and Twitter, and keep this blog. I’ve had numerous articles and stories published in other magazines and anthologies but sadly I just don’t have time to do this much anymore. God has given me Footprints and that keeps me out of mischief!
This blog started out purely as a way to add regular updates to our website, but over the past two or three years it’s become a lot more than that.
I like to share from my heart – the heart of an Aussie Christian woman, doing her best to follow in Jesus’ footprints (and not always getting it right). I ponder issues big and small – as you read this blog you will learn that I was raised by a parent with a severe mental illness and am an abuse THRIVER (not just survivor!). Not surprisingly, given my childhood trauma, I’ve had my own battles with depression (yes, Christians CAN get depression – it’s not an oxymoron!).
On a lighter note, I am crazy about teddies and cats. I love reading and have recently discovered a passion for vegie gardening and jazz music. I think chocolate is an essential component to every meal. I prefer to cook simple, straight forward recipes. I love 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles. I have a weakness for fashion and decorating.
But most of all God has given me a passion for supporting and encouraging other Australian Christian women, wherever they live in this vast land of ours. In 2001 my family and I were very blessed to travel across much of it in our caravan, and I long to see Footprints magazine in the hands of women from Perth to Coober Pedy, Mackay to Launceston, Bega to Kalgoorlie, Toowoomba to Bathurst, and everywhere in between. I know that there are many women who would love the feminine friendship and inspiration that Footprints brings – those who are isolated by distance, living in the great outback. Those who are busy with little ones, and never get to hear a sermon in church. Those who have a husband who doesn’t believe. Those who have a disability or chronic illness and don’t get out much. Those who love Jesus but have been hurt and are no longer part of a church. Those who don’t yet know Jesus but hunger for Him!
There are lots of gals out there who are longing for a magazine like Footprints – something wholesome, uplifting, non denominational and not pushing a particular agenda except JESUS. Will you spread the word?
