Praise God for libraries!

Just wanted to share about three fantastic books I have recently read, and all from my local Council library!

“Reckless Faith: let go and be led” by Beth Guckenberger.  Beth and her husband are missionaries in Mexico. This book is not so much an autobiography, but rather a collection of stories/testimonies of God at work in her life and the lives of those around her – how God is constantly challenging her to grow in new areas. I was so blessed by it!

“100 Ways to Simplify Your Life” by Joyce Meyer. A very timely read for me! The book is set up in 100 brief (one or two page) chapters, so it is easy to dip into. Each chapter is worth taking the time to mull over.

“The Yada Yada Prayer Group” by Neta Jackson. A bunch of women from all ages, stages, backgrounds and cultures are put together as a prayer group at a women’s conference. At first it seems they have nothing in common, but reading through this novel you soon learn that God has other plans! I couldn’t believe how many of the main character’s thoughts echoed mine …

If you’ve read any great books lately, you’re welcome to share about them here – or why not write a review for Footprints and send it to editor@footprintsaustralia.com?!

I was in our library recently and realised it was full of books by people I knew, particularly from a certain email list. I must be hanging around with too many authors.

Our library will practially buy anything I ask for. In fact, they even buy things I want to read before I ask for them. I was interested in reading Planet Google and asked the research desk if I could recommend it. But it was already in processing, so I just got to read it.

Hi Ken

Our library is also fantastic about ordering books if people request them. I don’t think enough people know about and use this service!

blessings,
Janet.

I have an extra advantage. The young man who orders the books is an ex-student of Jan’s. We are at the point in her career where she must have taught thousands of kids, who have grown up to do other things. This can sometimes be a nuisance. I can’t go shopping on Thursday night without hearing a chorus of “Hello Mrs Rolph” from the checkout chicks and chaps. But the older ones are more useful. Recently a grader working on some repairs to the water pipes backed into the gutter in front of our house and took a chunk out of the gutter. Our local councillor is an ex-student of Jan’s, so a simple phone call had our gutter repair on the top of the list.

But I think I help myself by always suggesting interesting books to the librarians. I usually go in with a handful of reviews to show that it’s not just me interested in the book. I would hate to be in a situation where I could only read books I could afford to buy. Sorry authors!
